Non-alcoholic beer: Preserving the magic of taste

This film centers on a joint project with the British brewery Adnams in the coastal town of Southwold in southern England. Adnams wanted to produce an alcohol-free beer. Not just any beer, but the equivalent of the award-winning, best-selling Ghost Ship variety. Using GEA technology and GEA brewing skills, Adnams eventually created Ghost Ship Citrus Pale Ale at 0.5% by volume, which won the 2019 World Beer Award Gold on its first birthday. It remains Ghost Ship in body and soul. GEA's project engineer Dr. Andrea Goos and Adnam's production manager Fergus Fitzgerald talk about the journey together.

Presented by The Brewers of Europe and produced by BBC StoryWorks Commercial Productions, the GEA, film is part of the Brewing Ambition series, which gives a snapshot of a European beer culture with a strong heritage and a bright future ahead.

In the last few decades, whey has evolved from an undesired by-product of cheesemaking to a valuable ingredient used in a wide range of nutritious products. Manufacturers are looking for economic solutions that maximize whey yield and minimize process waste.

During this webinar we touch on some of the historical changes observed in whey manufacturing. We review solutions that save fat, yield and operating media, yet still produce a high quality and safe product. Additionally, we offer ideas to optimize both process steps and CIP, in terms of separation (specifically centrifuges), as well as other equipment.

Today, the rendering of animal by-products with mechanical separation makes a significant contribution to the sustainability of animal agriculture.

Small adjustments to the process and equipment used in the rendering line can improve both efficiency and quality of the finished product. During this webinar we will review the modifications and procedures that GEA recommends for reaping these benefits. These include the importance of proper grinding, heating, pumping and flow control. We will also review the role centrifuges play in the production of a consistently separated product.

The global decline of conventional (light) crude oil production means an increase of the role of non-conventional (heavy) crude oil reserves. Processing these heavy crudes presents a series of challenges, including increased water cuts and decreased API grades. Centrifuges can be used to overcome these process issues and also be used to convert off-spec crude into a full value product.

We developed this educational session for design engineers, facility operators and managers at crude oil production sites (upstream/downstream), where centrifugal separation should be evaluated for its technical efficiencies and economy. By the end of the webinar, you will understand how your company can benefit from this technology.

What you'll learn in this webinar:
-The various plants from which protein can be extracted -- there are many and new sources are always being investigated
-Plant protein isolates and concentrates – how they differ
-The wet process for protein extraction – steps required to remove the protein
-Principles of centrifugation – why a centrifuge is an ideal choice for separating the protein from other plant components
-Using pilot equipment for process and product discovery and, ultimately, scale-up

Utilising Food Waste

Dealing with food waste usually means sending it to landfill where it could have been avoided. Storage and handling costs with this process could be reduced, greenhouse gas emissions contained, the nutrients extracted and potentially re-used as fertiliser on land. How? Separation by a centrifuge process makes it possible to manage the solid and liquid fractions individually. Primary separation of the raw food waste reduces storage space and transport costs while increasing the value of the potential product for renewable resource such as animal feed or anaerobic digestion. Find out more from Chris Clarke from the GEA Environmental Team

At AnugaFoodTec, we caught up with GEAs Sarah Meszaros. She introduced the GEA Nozzle Separator KNE 3-06-777. This smaller-sized separator is used by customers for the production of e.g. Greek yogurt, cream cheese, or quark. The biggest advantage of the redesigned Nozzle Separator is that there is no need for adding stabilizers during the production process. Thereby, the product quality increases. With the new GEA Nozzle Separator KNE 3-06-777 there are less spare parts needed and less energy consumed. The separator is part of a skid installation with the capacity of up to 180kg/h.

Efficient crude oil dehydration with GEA centrifuges

Removing water and solids from crude oil with traditional gravity settlers and strainers gets progressively harder as crudes become denser, more viscous, and more laden with solids and salts.
Centrifugal separators spin at high-speed to remove water, salt and solids from oil efficiently and effectively. Due to the high separation efficiency, the centrifuges have no trouble separating the high viscosity oil from the water, even though the API grade of the oil is low.
