We don't want to hire anyone in.
Robots versus staff was a no brainer.
Milking is done, it means we can still go away
And it still can be run by one person just managing stock more so
And frees up a lot more time for all the other jobs on farm that need looking after.
I’m Brett Coubrough
And I'm Linda Coubrough, and we are here with Coubrough Farms
And we've just installed two GEA DairyRobots.
It's been in the works for a long time.
The background, the research, and then just getting it across the line
And finding a product that suits us and suits what we want to do.
We’re building infrastructure for robots.
So anything that we did was all designed around if we put robots in
Everything in the shed to upgrade it as we went along, we knew robot wise
This was going to help us get there and that will need changing.
But yeah, it was always a, it was a goal, a very lofty goal.
But we're here. We done it.
We see it an investment for longevity
And succession wise is just carrying on what we’re doing
For as long as possible, but make it as easy as possible for ourselves.
You have to have enough spare time and the rest of it to still live life
Not to be tied just to the shed.
That's where it comes down to, and still make some money.
At the moment, we've got one or two cows that one of their quarters is
You know, it's a bit high in conductivity and cell count wise
And it's automatically milking it properly, stripping it out and dumping it.
That's not going into our vat.
The other three quarters are perfectly fine.
They're going into the vat
That allows us to find her later
Test her in our Mastatest system and treat her accordingly.
And then following that, she's antibiotic cow
That all gets dumped for the required time frame.
No more buckets, no more, you know, spray paint, trying to find who's who.
So that's freed up a lot of time dealing with those sick cows.
And some cows want to be milked three times a day.
Some only get milked once a day they have that bit more choice.
And depending on their size and their capabilities
And what they want to do, it's more, more cow friendly.
I’d like to hope.
