I'm Service Product Manager for the
GEA Hilge Hygienic Pumps in Bodenheim.
And today I want to show you the importance
of aligned pumps,
especially when it comes to couplings
or long coupled pumps.
To this properly, support the pump
with a proper basement and
check the alignment between the coupling of
the motor site and the
coupling of the pump end.
Every pump has been aligned in the factory.
During commissioning phase and connecting the pump
to the installation of the customer,
you have to recheck the alignment between the
couplings.
To do this, use a straightedge and check the
coupling at different positions like this.
If realignment is necessary you can reopen the
screws from the
pump end to the base plate or the motor end
to the base plate,
and support the pump with shims.
An unbalanced coupling can damage the bearings of the motor,
the mechanical seal, or other wetted parts.
