District heating project: Bunhill 2 Energy Centre, London
October 30, 2020
A smart district heating project for a central London district is now a global benchmark. The system takes waste heat from the London Underground and via GEA heat pump technology, pumps heating and cooling to 1,350 homes, two leisure centers and a school in the Islington neighborhood. This solution not only helps combat fuel poverty by providing residents with cheaper energy, but also serves as a blueprint for decarbonizing cities worldwide. With this project, Islington has been able to cut its emissions by 500 tons each year and improve air quality.
